Inside the research

What the archive actually records

The archived crawl requested a public contextual panel for 3,801 URLs on one news-heavy information site in late 2023. It recorded a “hasn’t seen” message for 1,138 URLs and no matching reference-source description across the requests. These counts describe the panel responses, not verified index status or the contents of Google’s Knowledge Graph.

Page groups had different message patterns

The reported message appeared for 4 of 126 core pages, 594 of 3,126 news articles and 540 of 549 paginated archive pages. Older post-ID groups had a higher rate of the message. Post IDs only approximate age, and this observational pattern does not establish why a page was treated differently.

What I would investigate next

Use the pattern to choose a sample for URL Inspection, review public identity information and inspect the role of archive links. Check usefulness, accuracy, internal links and first-party search evidence before changing content. A missing source description does not establish that Google lacks an entity record, and it does not demonstrate a ranking penalty.

Public-release clarification

The downloadable public edition corrects stronger claims in the supplied manuscript. The panel is contextual information; it is not an official indexing or entity-recognition diagnostic. The site remains unnamed, and no private analytics or business-performance totals are reproduced.
