Inside the research
Identity facts can disagree
The study found conflicting founding years for three of five brands. Even familiar businesses can have multiple versions of their history circulating across search and AI surfaces.
Visibility does not guarantee consistency
For two brands, Google’s knowledge panel and AI Mode disagreed on a checked fact. A visible panel should not be treated as proof that every surface shares the same entity information.
Start with a factual reference
A useful next step is a dated, sourced record of founding history, founders, headquarters and leadership. It makes discrepancies easier to investigate without assuming the AI answer is the authority.
